International bestselling author Paullina Simons delivers a riveting novel about a young woman whose search for her missing friend turns into a life-shattering odyssey.

The truth will change her forever.

Living in bustling New York City, Lily Quinn has plenty of distractions and is struggling to finish college as well as pay her rent. But that all pales in comparison when Amy, her best friend and roommate, disappears without a trace.

Spencer O’Malley, a cynical NYPD detective assigned to Amy’s case, immediately captures Lily’s attention. Though he is wary and wrestling with his own demons, he, too, is irresistibly drawn to Lily.

But fate has more in store for Lily than she ever expected. As she looks deeper into the mystery surrounding Amy’s disappearance, Lily finds answers she never imagined she’d find—answers that challenge everything she knows about her own life.

Lily’s search puts her on a collision course with tragedy and love, and gives her a glimpse into the abyss that swallowed her friend . . . until she faces a final confrontation with her own life-changing destiny.

“Part mystery, part romance, part family drama . . . in other words, the perfect book.”—Daily Mail

My Review: This book had a very slow start for me. I found the beginning rather dull, the mood was depressing and I found myself almost miserable just reading it. I wasn’t even sure if I could finish the book. However, around page 125 it got really good. After that, I got engrossed in this book and didn’t want to put it down.

I love how well Lily grew up and found herself. First she is really poor, then her boyfriend leaves her, taking her bed and his part of the rent money, next her best friend goes missing, and then a handsome detective complicates matters even further. Just when she thinks things are at their worst, she gets even more bad news. Through this all, she was able to grow stronger and use her art to learn more about herself and express her sorrow and joy.

I did find the parts about Lily’s mom and dad really annoying. Allison drove me insane, but once we learned a little more about her history, I understood a little more. I still didn’t like her, but it made it more bearable. George’s inability to deal with anything unpleasant, including helping his daughter, made me dislike him more and more as the story went on. Lily’s sisters were also entitled brats and I couldn’t stand them either.

Other than those small issues, the story was really good and I am glad I read it.
